Theater Kaufman took his editorial responsibilities seriously. In 1917 Kaufman joined The New York Times, becoming drama editor and staying with the newspaper until 1930. By 1915 he was a drama reporter on The New York Tribune, working under Heywood Broun. He became close friends with Adams, who helped him get his first newspaper job-humor columnist for The Washington Times-in 1912. Kaufman began contributing humorous material to the column that Franklin P. He grew disenchanted and took on a series of odd jobs, selling silk and working in wholesale ribbon sales. He graduated from high school in 1907 and studied law for three months. ![]() His other sister was Helen, nicknamed "Helse". ![]() Kaufman, a hatband manufacturer, and Nettie Meyers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He also won the Tony Award for Best Director in 1951 for the musical Guys and Dolls. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the musical Of Thee I Sing (with Morrie Ryskind and Ira Gershwin) in 1932, and won again in 1937 for the play You Can't Take It with You (with Moss Hart). In addition to comedies and political satire, he wrote several musicals for the Marx Brothers and others. You Can't Take It With You is produced with special arrangement from Dramatists Play Service, Inc., New York, N.Y.George Simon Kaufman (November 16, 1889 – June 2, 1961) was an American playwright, theater director and producer, humorist, and drama critic. This production is directed by Andrew Lopez and features a cast of more than twenty Wells High School performers and stage crew. Will the two families find a way to accept each other? Will love conquer all? But when practical young Alice Sycamore becomes engaged to her company’s vice president, Tony Kirby, disaster ensues despite best laid plans. Their hobbies include collecting snakes, building fireworks in the basement, writing a myriad of plays that never get published, and taking ballet lessons. They are a warm, loving family proudly marching to the beat of their own drum. As the story unfolds, Grandpa Vanderhof and his eccentric family, the Sycamores, are happily living their zany, contented lives. The play is considered a favorite of American high school productions. The movie of the same name went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director in 1939. Winner of the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, You Can't Take It With You was later adapted for the big screen. Should Friday's play performance be postponed, a make-up performance is planned for Saturday, Nov. 16 is “tentative,” based upon the scheduled Class D state championship football game that same day. Ticket prices are $8 for the general public and $5 for students and senior citizens. The show will continue with evening performances at 6:30 p.m. Seats for this matinee are $5 with free admission offered to students and senior citizens.
